Safer decisions
start with awareness.

Recognise warning signs and protect your money and information.

Pause. Check. Then act.

Verify through a channel you already trust, rather than a number or link in the suspicious message.

01

A request for your PIN or OTP

Do not share a PIN, password or one-time code with someone claiming to work for a financial institution.

02

Pressure to act immediately

An urgent demand to pay to prevent account closure or receive a prize should be independently checked.

03

An unfamiliar address or link

Open an address you already know. A familiar name or logo in a message does not establish who sent it.

04

A request to control your phone

Do not install remote-control software at a stranger’s request or share your screen while using account secrets.

If you think details or money are compromised

  1. Stop the interactionDo not send more money or codes. End screen sharing if it is active.
  2. Contact the providerReach the SACCO through a trusted channel. If your SIM is lost or replaced without your knowledge, contact your mobile provider.
  3. Keep evidenceKeep the messages, dates and transaction evidence. Ask how to follow up the issue.
Keep building your understanding
